Foamgator
I love the complete abandon with which Kate plunges into projects like this, confident that she can make things turn out just like Mom and Dad do. So when she tells me she wants to make her own foam animals, what can I do but shrug and get out the foam and a marker for her?
She sat down and drew these alligator pieces without any guide, just going from the other foam animals that she's seen us make. (You may have noticed that Kate seems to have a thing for reptiles. I have no explanation for this.)
We recently got Kate her own safety scissors. She's still figuring them out. She rough-cut the pieces and then I went back and did the detail work.
I got to do the actual assembly, too, of course. I wasn't sure if the body would be big enough, but I overlapped the legs and got everything squeezed in.
I think this is just so stinkin' cute.
And this is pretty cute, too!

Oh my goodness that is SO PRECIOUS! And adorable! *giggles*
Helena, This is amazing! I can't believe she has the abstract reasoning skills to draw each piece separately and picture how it will all fit together with the brads! I know adults who wouldn't be able to figure that out!
She's a smart cookie!!!
Yeah, I was really impressed with the way she did the jaw! She also tried making a lion (that was the yellow foam) but the pieces just weren't big enough.
She is so amazing! You have such a sweet family.

Wow she is so creative. You deserve lots of credit for giving her such a supportive environment. She will go far.
I love her style. You should have her illustrate a book. One about reptiles, of course.
Very adorable and impressive! I want one for Christmas!!! When is she opening her etsy shop? :)
You're right, it IS stinkin' cute. Just adorable. I can already imagine her making a giant cardboard alligator costume when she's ten and trying to trick-or-treat in it.
She is adorable, and I think it's great to have that confidence--I hope she can hang on to that!
Love the gator!
Love the creativity and confidence Kate has, and how you nuture both. The last photo of Kate with her dino is adorable!
wow - haven't you got a lovely creative child there! Love the alligator :)
That is just fabulous! I have a thing about reptiles too, and I would definitely by a Katie foam crocodile when she opens her shop!
Have you read the book Guji Guji to her? It is the cutest crocodile book ever :-)
So very cute(the alligator AND the girl)! She would make an awesome illustrator!
AWESOME!!! She not only has a good eye for detail, but relationships and proportions too. It's so very fun to see her doing all this fun stuff.
