Thanksgiving and the Sculpey Sweet Shoppe

Kate spent a large part of the day making Sculpey creations for her Littlest Pet Shop figures.  (Those are milkshakes with pink straws.)

We made Indian food this year.  Doug wanted to try making our own naan.  It was pretty good but not quite right.  We'll have to try again sometime.

I've developed low expectations about Thanksgiving.  Years ago people used to invite us over, but that hasn't happened for a while.  I suppose one of these years we'll have to invite someone over ourselves.  Someone else with low expectations.

Being Thankful

Some of us have been sick, but we still managed to put together a little Thanksgiving Dinner. Doug roasted a chicken like last year (the one that I picked up was a seven-pounder... that's a lot of chicken!) I made my yearly apple pie (sweetened with honey), and a loaf of challa.

I would have enjoyed the meal more without my sore throat making it uncomfortable to swallow, but everything was still pretty tasty, and now I have some nice soothing chicken broth simmering on the stove.

Non-Traditional (my kids have never liked mashed potatoes)

Our day of thanks included Indian food, Kandle Park, and pie. Relaxing, and tasty!

(That's my no-sugar apple pie, sweetened with honey, that I pretty much only make once a year.  Not a lot of honey--less sweet, more apple.  I like it that way.)

Happy Thanksgiving!

gobble gobble

Kate's hand print turkey from school. She said they all painted their fingers in stripes, but then she moved hers back and forth on the paper to smear the paint. Like making a snow angel!

She also brought home this turkey hat. Cute!

We had Thanksgiving with Doug's sister Erika in Everett. (Grandma Mary was visiting, too.) We had a bit of traffic and heavy rain on the way up, and the kids were tired of being in the car, but we had a nice time. Kate and Doug both had Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday off. Hooray for five-day weekends!

This Thanksgiving I was particularly thankful for a washer and dryer, and hot water, and electricity. Andy threw up twice on the bed Tuesday night, and again the next morning (got the carpet that time). We're pretty sure it was from a hot dog he ate. Apparently some kinds are okay and some kinds reduce him to a Miserable Vomitous Mass. Poor kid.

Over the River and Through the Woods

We went out to Ross and Cathryn's house in Gig Harbor for Thanksgiving. We hadn't seen them since last Thanksgiving, but Cathryn sent me an email about a week ago saying, "Hey, are you guys coming for Thanksgiving?" and I said, "Sure, if you want us!"

Going over the bridge (okay, so it's not actually a river).

Kate, in the back of the car, made the observation that the bridge was a lot like the ones that we have in our train set.

...and through the woods...

...to Ross and Cathryn's house! I loved the pumpkins and just had to get a picture.

They hadn't met Andy yet. The girls thought he was adorable and took turns passing him around. We had a lovely meal (with some of the best gravy ever), watched The Princess Bride, played with my pipe chimes, listened to a story and drew pictures, and then cut snowflakes. We also called and sang Happy Birthday to my brother Peter, with Noelle on the piano.

We liked this sturdy wooden rocking airplane. That's some hefty construction.

Noelle and Tsia cutting snowflakes.

Doug helps Kate with a snowflake.

(One of mine.)

We've had a nice weekend, and Kate got to play over at other people's houses three days in a row! (Her bedtime has been pretty much shot. Must get back on track.)

On Friday (his eleven-month birthday) Andy took a couple of steps. Look out world!

Giving Thanks

We went over to Ross and Cathryn's house for Thanksgiving, and had a lovely meal and a nice visit. Kate had a great time playing with their youngest daughter. After dinner we sang some Thanksgiving hymns and patriotic songs, and then we cut out paper snowflakes with the girls. Thanks for having us over!
