Saying Goodbye

Our neighbors the Kim family are moving. We are sad! They moved in when Andy was just five months old, and we've enjoyed having them in the complex.

I made them this little book for a going-away present. I've made four photo books now, all printed at different places.  I got this one done at WHCC.

It was a quick job.  I didn't think I had enough time to design the pages scrapbook-style, so I just arranged the photos on a black background.  I had some that included other kids from the complex, and some that were just our kids--memories of things we've done together over two years.

I didn't see an option to choose endpapers.  They came black.  (That's one thing that I like better about sharedink--they have lots of endpaper choices.)  The printing isn't quite photo quality but it's very good.  It did seem to print a little cooler than the colors on my monitor.  I'll have to remember that.

I had the book less than a week after placing the order.  Very quick!  I was impressed.  The Kims loved it.

The girls brought over some kim bap for us. After I convinced Kate that there was nothing in there she didn't like (except the cucumber, which I picked out for her) she agreed to try it. She said, "This is good! I want to make this some time!" Andy wouldn't even look at it. (This was surprising--Kate's usually the picky one.)

We will miss our friends! Kate will especially miss having Glory and Hanuri around to play with.

Viovio books

These are the books that I made for the kids in our complex (posted about here). I got some in 7x5 and some in 5.25 x 3.5. I was trying to figure out what to do on the cover, since I didn't have anything like a picture of all the kids together, so I had this idea to do stick figures. They turned out pretty cute, I think. (Kate is the second-shortest stick figure.)

Service was pretty quick--I placed the order on a Tuesday and had them the following Monday. It's not exactly photo-quality printing, but about what I was expecting. I planned the pages with the quarter-inch trim and binding room around the edges for the 7x5 size, so on the smaller size a little bit more got trimmed off, proportionately. Something to keep in mind.

The back on the book has the Viovio logo on it. You can get that taken off for an extra charge.

Rain Dance

We had a brief rain shower on Saturday. We were out painting letters on the porch when it started. Kate decided to go experience the rain. She doesn't like swimming pools, doesn't like getting in sprinklers or being splashed, but rain apparently is okay. I put the long lens on my camera so I could take pictures while staying dry on the porch. Doug got out my umbrella (my special lucky Korean umbrella), and she thought that was pretty good too. In fact, after she came in, we had a hard time convincing her to give the umbrella up.

I'm going to start designing a coffee-table-type book of pictures, so I thought I'd work on photo processing and book layouts at the same time.
