Golden Autumn

The trees are all nearly bare now, with a few straggler leaves hanging on here and there. We enjoyed the color and the nice crisp weather while it lasted. Today we had our first snowfall. I did get some pictures, but I thought I should post some autumn pictures first. These were taken a couple of weeks ago.

When we passed this tree on the way to school one morning, I said, "Look, Kate, it's like a yellow sea!" and she said, "Quick, let's run through it before the yellow shark gets us!"

Our complex has such a great variety of leaves--islands of gold under some trees and red under others, and great big maple leaves that cover the sidewalk along the street.

We had some fun with the camera at our favorite picture corner:

Doesn't this make it look like my kids actually get along and enjoy playing together? It's an illusion. (Yeah, they're doing better... some!)

Oh, how pretty! I love how you caught the light limning their heads in a couple of them...

Wonderful photos as always. We have a few immigrant trees that do the yellow leafy dump, but of course it's spring here and we've just had a couple of days of 31 (Celsius ... which is about 88°F .. which makes snow a very unlikely proposition ... along with sleep tonight!). Your pictures brought back memories of autumn in Oxford last year.

Lovely photos! I wish I could say the same about the weather here. It was -27 Celsius today. I ran into a snowbank and have to pay to replace the bumper on my new car ;(

Re: "Doesn't this make it look like my kids actually get along and enjoy playing together? It's an illusion."

When we were kids, my brother and I ONLY got along when we were making money in some manner. Otherwise? Terrible, terrible.

My mother told my brother and me that we'd get along when we were older. We disagreed adamantly. Years later, when my brother graduated from USMC boot camp (he was 20, I was 22), I was hugging him and wishing him good luck. My mother was sobbing. My brother said, "Why are you crying? You always said we'd get along, and look, we finally are!"

My mother said, "Yeah, but I never believed it."

"WHAT?"

My stepdad was shaking his head in agreement. "I said it," Mom said, "but I thought you'd always hate each other."

Anyhow. I don't know how badly they'll fight, but they'll love each other when they're older. ;) (I hope this post is taken in the spirit in which I am writing it...)
